We want to hear your views on the renewal of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Croydon town centre.

A council can use its authority to introduce a PSPO, giving the police extra powers to tackle specific antisocial behaviours (ASB) and activities, such as street drinking, urinating in public and noise in a specific area.

In 2022, following consultation, we introduced a three-year town centre PSPO to support the police in targeting antisocial behaviour. We are now proposing to reinstate the PSPO when it comes to an end in November this year, and would like to hear your views before we do.

The proposed PSPO covers the town centre and its surrounding area, including parts of South Croydon, Broad Green and Addiscombe West. This is to cover antisocial behaviour hotspots close to the town centre, preventing behaviours moving from the town centre to nearby parks and public spaces. See a map of the proposed area here.

If renewed, the Council will continue to work with the police to make sure people are aware of the PSPO and the area it covers, so it is clear which behaviours and activities are not allowed in the area. Anyone who refuses to stop the behaviours or activities in the area could be arrested or fined.

The PSPO would continue to be reviewed and monitored by the Safer Croydon Partnership (SCP), which is already responsible for tracking other crime and antisocial behaviour hotspots across the borough.

Complete the survey below to tell us about your personal experiences of antisocial behaviour in central Croydon, as well as your views on how to tackle it.

If you need this consultation information in a different language or format, please contact PSPO@croydon.gov.uk

The consultation survey will be open until 11.59pm, Sunday 27 July.

The proposal and feedback from the consultation will then go to Cabinet for a decision on the renewal in September 2025.
